Guizhou Open University (Guizhou Vocational Technology Institute), established in 1979, is an independent higher education institution established by the People’s Government of Guizhou Province and approved by the Ministry of Education. GZOU(GZVTI) is located in the provincial capital, Guiyang, and has two campuses: Bageyan Road and Yuntan South Road, covering an area of over 800 acres with a building area of nearly 255,000 square meters. GZOU(GZVTI) library has a collection of nearly 450,000 physical books and 1.34 million e-books. GZOU(GZVTI) has standardized sports stadiums and auditoriums, as well as advanced distance education information technology platforms, interactive teaching platforms, abundant online teaching resources, and a comprehensive learning support service system.
Currently, GZOU(GZVTI) has 693 faculty and staff, including 194 with senior professional titles and 411 with doctoral and master’s degrees. The proportion of Double-Quality Teachers is 80.42%. There are currently nine outstanding teachers in the university, including National Excellent Teachers, Huang Yanpei Outstanding Vocational Education Teachers, recipients of the National May Day Labor Medal, National Excellent Communist Youth League Cadres, Guizhou Province Technical Experts, Guizhou Province Thousand Level Talents, as well as personnel enjoying special subsidies from the provincial government. There are nearly 100,000 students with various educational backgrounds studying at the university, including nearly 15,000 vocational students. GZOU(GZVTI) has National Open University (Guizhou) Senior Open University, Guizhou Community Education Guidance Center, and Provincial-Level Pilot Units for the Construction of Lifelong Education “Credit Banks” in the province. It has established 10 open universities and 70 workstations established in cities, prefectures, and some industries throughout the province, as well as 58 provincial-level community education demonstration bases and 35 community education pilot units, offering 91 undergraduate and vocational majors in Open Education. There are five secondary schools, including the School of Information Engineering, the School of Architectural Engineering, the School of Business and Trade, the School of Art and Design, and the School of Aeronautics. Currently, there are 25 vocational majors offered.
