Recently, the results of the 2024 “Higher Education Press Cup” National College Students’ Mathematical Modeling Competition, hosted by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, have been announced. Our university is delighted to have won one national second prize, three provincial first prizes, one provincial second prize, and one provincial third prize.

The university places great emphasis on the mathematical modeling competition. Since the launch of the competition in May, with the strong support of the Academic Affairs Office and the School of Information Engineering, the coaching team has meticulously organized training and selection, ultimately selecting 18 outstanding teams to represent the university in the competition.

Established in 1992 and held annually, this competition is one of the 19 competitions listed in the “University Discipline Competition Ranking List”. In 1994, it was designated by the Ministry of Education as one of the four major events for college students and is now included in the “University Competition Evaluation and Management System” directory (ranked fifth), making it one of the largest comprehensive discipline competitions participated in by universities nationwide. In 2024, 1788 institutions/campuses from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia, with 65761 teams (59278 undergraduate teams and 6483 specialized teams), nearly 200,000 people registered to participate.

Participating in the competition has stimulated the enthusiasm of our students for learning mathematics, improved their comprehensive ability to establish mathematical models and apply computer technology to solve practical problems, and has positively encouraged a large number of students to actively participate in extracurricular scientific and technological activities, broaden their knowledge, and cultivate a spirit of innovation and cooperation.
